Adept Play
Glorantha is one of the two or three oldest settings associated with roleplaying, with its earliest origins in the 1960s. Its primary author was Greg Stafford. It was developed mostly through the games RuneQuest and Hero Wars/Hero Quest.
This is my first post at Adept Play, so a little bit of background context may be in order. I’ve been exposed to roleplaying games since elementary school, made several tentative attempts to play them, ended up developing my understanding of how to play them slowly, starting in university and continuing to this day. I […]
Hans began quite a conversation at Discord, which I think deserves to be imported here and continued. It goes like this! HANS: So I’m reading the first adventure in the Starter set for Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha (the latest RQ rules published by Chaosium). The target audience is new GMs and players. The first situation […]
WHO Me (playing) & Tavis (GM’ing) & our gaming group from twelve years ago. We’ve reconnected via video chat, and it’s really nice to see all these people after so long. One of the group was 16 when we met and kind of living a messy life; now he’s a licensed electrician and owns a house. PLAYING […]
My duet buddy and I played a climactic, explosive 14th session of Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha over the weekend, and I just had to share. I’m going to keep this as brief as possible (ha, I know, I know), but to get you to the scene I want to talk about you’re going to need […]
During the “Playing with the pool” curriculum, we had a discussion about what “setting” is and is not. What it is: the effect of playing in-game situations. What it’s not: the body of lore written by various people outside of play. We discussed about the quality of having a rich and prodigious amount of content […]
I got to play a game of Runequest Glorantha with my spouse (Adrean) last night. We were working through the rules methodically as we learned the game, so there was roughly three or four scenes – I don't have a lot of thoughts yet, but there was this real awesome action scene at the end […]
Hard to believe my duet buddy and I are 10 sessions into our next arc of Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha! This is his first time GMing a long-form game, and he brings a humor, a whimsy and a humanism to our play that has consistently surprised and delighted me. It’s the longest game I’ve been […]
I’ve been avoiding writing up the AP report on the last two sessions of our Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha duet. My buddy and I took a break from RQG to play a couple of sessions of Emet (from Doikayt: A Jewish TTRPG Anthology). With the two of us trading places and me no longer in […]
After a long-ish hiatus from the Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha duet, we jumped right to it when we started session 12 last weekend. And goddamn did we jump into the deep end. I’m going to relate the fictional events of play, then reflect on some questions of prep that the session raised. I’m planning on laying […]
