Adept Play
Twosie play means that two people are playing. It might be a game designed for more people but only two happen to be playing, or it might be a game specialized for two players only. Fun fact: until 2008, I didn’t think good two-player roleplaying design was possible – but changed my mind entirely due to experiences in play.
I had a memory come back to me and I figured I’d share it. I had this friend named Sayler. I haven’t seen him in a long time. Sayler was an interesting and somewhat mysterious fellow. He was of German and Persian ancestry. He was stationed in Berlin with the U.S. Army when the wall […]
A few months ago, I asked participants at the Patreon to focus some play-time toward Cold Soldier, preferably played in person. I’d hoped to see more posting about it here as well. I think I may still see that hope fulfilled, because I know there was a lot of play. In fact, Noah asked me […]
Here begins my effort to recover the past six months of role-playing into some Actual Play posting. It might go on for a while. This particular event was played last October (2022), consisting of two two-player games played side by side, Showdown by Seth Ben Ezra and Cold Soldier by Bret Gillan. Most of what […]
My spouse and I decided to play Pendragon. We have the 3rd Edition rules, and a few of the supplements; Knights Adventurous, Savage Mountains and The Boy King (1st Edition). We are playing using The Boy King, an 80 Year Arthurian Campaign and Chronology, as the outline for our game. Note: The Boy King requires […]
This is my first post at Adept Play, so a little bit of background context may be in order. I’ve been exposed to roleplaying games since elementary school, made several tentative attempts to play them, ended up developing my understanding of how to play them slowly, starting in university and continuing to this day. I […]
We played 1 hour of Cold Soldier with my friend Benoit. Benoit was playing the Cold Soldier, I was playing the Dark Master. I was facilitating the rules that Ben had not read. Cold Soldier formalizes a lot the distribution of authorities. Backstory authority is shared between the players. In our game, we decided together […]
My duet buddy and I played a climactic, explosive 14th session of Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha over the weekend, and I just had to share. I’m going to keep this as brief as possible (ha, I know, I know), but to get you to the scene I want to talk about you’re going to need […]
Hard to believe my duet buddy and I are 10 sessions into our next arc of Runequest: Roleplaying in Glorantha! This is his first time GMing a long-form game, and he brings a humor, a whimsy and a humanism to our play that has consistently surprised and delighted me. It’s the longest game I’ve been […]
The following text was taken from the forum “La Locanda del Gdr” and translated from Italian using Deepl: Hello everyone! In August I had the opportunity to try for the first time S/lay w/ME, accompanied by a faithful companion known online, for two sessions and a total of two rotations between the role of GM […]
