Mavericks: Setup and Statements

So, we’re jumping back into Champions Now. Although we plan to continue the Sentinels of Justice in the near future, our gaming group also started a new game back in May. I discuss how I approached the game in this first video. More to come soon.

  1. I guess I’m sad that your Miami proposal didn’t make it, because for me, playing “right here where we live” has always been powerful for super-heroes. But this looks fun too. Is anyone in the group intimately familiar with Chicago?

I also appreciate your point about moving more rapidly toward play in real time. Wallowing in preparation and what-if and how-about infects superhero role-playing very badly, and you’re right that this system is built simply not to do it. As play continues, I hope you’ll see concrete benefits from having avoided it.

    • I’m a little sad about Miami too, but it’ll happen eventually. We actually played a SUPER fun session of Marvel Super Heroes about a year ago that was set in Miami during the 90s, but I really want to run a sustained game in the “Magic City” at some point. And yes – Mike knows Chicago pretty well. Another member of our Saturday crew does as well, but he hasn’t jumped onboard yet.

It does feel good to jump into play more quickly. At the very least, I’ve moved past the anxiety of “doing it wrong.” Indeed, those sections of the Champions Now text where you give “permission” to let things be “meh” until they happen to become profound have proved liberating, both for but also beyond Champions Now.
